Educational video for children to learn some characteristics and fun facts about giraffes. Giraffes are vertebrate and herbivorous animals, they feed on the leaves of the trees that they find in their habitat. They are the tallest land mammals in the world. Did you know that the smallest giraffes weigh 1213 lb and the largest can weigh up to 2646 lb?
Giraffes, the tallest land animals on Earth, are known for their striking appearance and graceful movements. With towering heights of up to 18 feet in males and 16 feet in females, their most distinctive feature is their long necks, which can stretch up to 6 feet. Despite their impressive length, giraffes have only seven vertebrae in their necks, just like most mammals, but these are exceptionally elongated.
Their legs are long and slender, with the front legs being slightly longer than the back ones, giving them a unique, loping stride. The giraffe's coat is covered in a pattern of irregular brown patches separated by lighter lines, which provides camouflage in the savanna where they live. Their prehensile tongues, about 18 inches long, are perfectly adapted for browsing on leaves from tall trees, particularly acacias.
Giraffes use their height to their advantage, reaching high foliage that other herbivores cannot access. Their towering stature and specialized adaptations make them a symbol of the African landscape and a marvel of the animal kingdom.
